The movement has spread to New Hampshire. Looks like they could use a little help organizing. Can't tell if it is to take place in Concord or Manchester or both. Anyway I'm very pleased that we are a part of this amazing movement.

I was 9 years old when the Beatles first appeared on the Ed Sullivan show. I grew up with the war in VietNam and the civil and musical revolutions that were taking place at the time. Songs of protest were part of the soundtrack to my teenaged life. Phil Ochs; Peter, Paul, & Mary; Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Country Joe and the Fish -those of you were there remember how important the music was. We sang at protests. We sang in front of the gates of Seabrook. We were honoring a proud tradition going back generations, whether we knew it or not.
Thanks to the way we do radio and music these days, there hasn't been a mainstream musical protest movement since. People are still writing and singing songs of peace and protest, they're just harder to find. I've been particularly encouraged by the emergence of songs about NH in the last couple of years, especially the songs of protest. Blue Hamster Beverly Woods and her partner Seth Austin have given us two great songs already this year.
(there is a musical reward at the end of this diary)
This, at least to me has become increasingly evident. There's been an upswing of threats, a surge in right wing fringe groups and white supremacist groups since Obama took office. dlh77489 had a diary calling for more money for the Secret Service. FishOutofWater discussed the number of threats. The Republican party has become both complacent and an instigator of violent rhetoric in an attempt to remain significant.
It has been an amazing week in Iran, and you are no doubt seeing images that would have been unimaginable just a few weeks ago.
For most of us, Iran has been a country about which we know very little...which, obviously, makes it tough to put the limited news we're getting into a proper context.
The goal of today's conversation is to give you a bit more of an "insider look" at today's news; and to do that we'll describe some of the risks Iranian bloggers face as they go about their business, we'll meet a blogging Iranian cleric, we'll address the issue of what tools the Iranians use for Internet censorship and the companies that could potentially be helping it along, and then we'll examine Internet traffic patterns into and out of Iran.
Finally, a few words about, of all things, how certain computer games might be useful as tools of revolution.
In 9 DAYS, thousands will gather in front of the Concord Statehouse, waving banners and showing unity in a historical call for national action on climate change.
