Son of 2010 General Election Results Thread

by: Dean Barker

Tue Nov 02, 2010 at 20:26:57 PM EDT

Here's WMUR's results page. You can click through it for down-ticket races as well.

And Politico's results map is not bad either.

Have at it.

UPDATE (9:12): The Politico site is calling it for Mystery Money Man.

Results from the East coast? (0.00 / 0)
Do you know numbers in Andover or Franklin, Dean? Feeling good about Matthew's lead in Hanover/Lebanon/Enfield, but won't be 100% until we know Franklin...

Change is inevitable, but progress is not. Working together, we can make sure that change = progress. And that's what makes us progressive...

I stupidly relied on the results pages instead of getting a contact point in town, so I am in the dark as well on Andover and environs.

Results From Portsmouth's Ward One: (4.00 / 1)
Ward One in Portsmouth, as well as all the city's wards, was open until 8:00 PM by order of the Secretary of State.  It had been announced in local media that the time was 7:00 PM, but about 20 more voters made it between 7:00 PM and 8:00 PM.

Here are the results.  Ward One is a Democratic ward, and for comparison purposes I list some of the results of the 2008 election:

The turnout was about 43.7%, with 1,364 people voting out of a registration of 3,121.  There were 120 new voters signed up today:  51 Democrats, 13 Republicans, and 56 Undeclared.

November 2nd, 2010:

Governor:
John Stephen (R):  318

VERY ROUGH PROJECTION: I think that Ann Kuster just beat Charlie Bass (4.00 / 1)
I'm using my 2002 election projection model for the 2nd CD, which uses data from 1990-2002 and doesn't account for the blue surge in small town NH in recent years.  But, even when taking that into account, I have Annie winning by a couple of points.

Don't want to get peoples' hopes up.  My model is dated.  But, unless Annie gets killed in blue-collar towns, I think that she will buck the trend by 2-4 points.

Cautionary Note (0.00 / 0)
Rindge was not good.  Will need to see a few more returns before I can validate any patterns.

We're seeing a pretty amazing GOTV in Cheshire. (0.00 / 0)
About 180 new registered voters in Ward 2, also big numbers in Ward 1.

[ Parent ]
The GOTV at the college was a good operation this year (0.00 / 0)
Best I've seen since I've tracked such things (2004?). Would like to know how many provisional ballots might be waiting in Ward 1.

[ Parent ]
Please explain - (0.00 / 0)
In Ward 2 we had no "provisional ballots," and I've only heard the term in reference to voting in other states...

[ Parent ]
sorry meant affidavits (0.00 / 0)
which students often have to fill out. But I guess those votes are not counted separately then?

[ Parent ]
No. (0.00 / 0)
The vote registrant without other documentation signs an affadavit stating, "Yes: I am John Q. Doe and I was born Feb 17, 1990..." and/or "I live at 15 Drury Lane". The vote registrant is entered onto the checklist, gets a ballot. That ballot is cast like any other, without segregating it. That is: it is counted that evening, and there is no ability to "uncount" that specific ballot.

The law provides for someone to challenge a registrant: "I know that isn't John - John is my uncle!" or "That address is a gas station!"

I haven't seen any such challenges in the elections I've worked in.

[ Parent ]
Cautionary Note #2 (0.00 / 0)
Having a hard time reading this race. Annie seems to be cruising in the hamlets -- even blue collar ones like Milan -- but has gotten killed in the three largest towns that have reported thus far (Weare, Pittsfield, Rindge).

My numbers still have Annie projecting out to a lead, but this one will probably come down to Nashua.

(Note -- My model leverages competitive races from the '90s, including Swett '90, Rauh '92, Swett '94, Swett '96, Rauh '98, Brannen '00, and Shaheen '00.  Swett bias is because I built the thing for Katrina's '02 race.  So, obviously, it's considerably out of date, but still an interesting data point.  Will keep entering the 2nd CD numbers for the rest of the night.)

Kuster/Bass - Concord (0.00 / 0)
4 wards in, Annie has 58%.  This is a slight underperform (depending on which wards -- won't know until City Hall posts the results on the web site within the hour.)

Still, while I would expect Annie to do better in Concord, this race has the makings of a later nighter.  Still think Nashua will decide it.

CT House seats held (0.00 / 0)
Obama's visit to Bridgeport Saturday put Jim Himes CT D4 back into office. A great hold for an Obama baby. CT-4 was R from 1968-2008! African American voters made the difference.

Democrats sweep Connecticut congressional elections
HARTFORD (AP) - Connecticut's U.S. House delegation appeared likely to remain a Democrats-only club after Tuesday's elections.

Four of the five Democratic incumbents won re-election, and the fifth had declared victory, thwarting Republican hopes to take back one or possibly two seats.

Freshman U.S. Rep. Jim Himes had been thought to be in trouble in Fairfield County's 4th District, which had been held by Republicans from 1969-2008.

But he beat state Sen. Dan Debicella of Shelton after a battle in which both candidates tried to claim the middle ground.

Debicella had tried to portray Himes as a rubber stamp for President Barack Obama's policies and too liberal for Fairfield County.

But it may have been Obama who helped provide the margin of victory, hosting a huge rally in Bridgeport on Saturday, in an attempt to secure the party's urban base.

With 16% counted.

Kuster-Bass Update (0.00 / 0)
Early Southern Tier results not looking good.  Hollis was below expectations, and Windham was a disaster for Kuster.

If this is a pattern, that's very bad. Annie needs Nashua.

Ouch - Pelham (0.00 / 0)
Charlie wins Pelham by more than 2:1.  Not a Dem town, but Jeanne nearly beat Humphrey there in 2000.

Still feasible.  In addition to Nashua, Annie needs to clean up in Keene. . . . If anyone has ward-by-ward #s, that would be useful.

It's nights like this... (0.00 / 0)
I seriously think we ought to take a lesson from Australia. Which is to say, mandatory voting. The primary good news so far is holding WV, things looking good at this point in PA and CO, and that in 2012 the broader electorate is going to be more engaged and Republicans will have had two years to remind everyone how thoroughly insane they are.

Really right wing. They are going to pass very bad legislation on choice, equality, education. They will think they won because of their ideology as opposed to the national mood.

Hard to say (0.00 / 0)
given how anonymous many State House candidates are, but if the new Republican state representatives are anything like the majority of the party now, voters will be very surprised by how different these people are than the Republicans they may remember.  And I don't think they'll like the new version.

Rich Boucher and Jack Spratt (4.00 / 1)
Two longtime Blue Dogs who worked with party leaders to keep the caucus united on important legislation.

They were considered "liberal" by Southern standards.  Of course, Franco might meet that definition south of the Mason-Dixon line.  We'll see whether the South changes its views after it loses all of those Yankee tax dollars invested in its states.
