Tick, Tock

I note with interest the following ethics charge against Charlie Rangel deliberated in the House Ethics Committee hearing today:
"Respondent engaged in a pattern of submitting Financial Disclosure statements that were incomplete and inaccurate."
I'm still seeing Guinta for Congress Google text ads pop up on various sites I visit.  It reminds me that for at least the final two weeks of his campaign, Frank Guinta's cash-on-hand total was less than the $355,000 he provided his campaign but refuses to prove was his to give.

Here's a fun trivia question we should crowdsource the answer to: when was the last time a Republican was elected to New Hampshire's first district without a general election endorsement from the Union Leader?

Once upon a time, the Manchester Leader (pre-merger) was a Bull Moose outlet (0.00 / 0)
So, 1912?

@DougLindner

Relying on disclosure to ensure honorable behavior (0.00 / 0)
is dubious.  It assumes that candidates for public office feel shame and try to avoid behavior which generates that sensation.  It's a nice idea, but given the obstreperous and anti-social proclivities of conservatives, who delight in out-witting the system and evading their responsibilities (marital, parental, civic, legal), it's unrealistic to count on the risk of exposure to keep them honest.

Accounting for mistakes helps to prevent repetition.  Confession may be good for the soul, if one exists, but it is not known for preventing bad behavior from being indulged again and again.

Frank is not honest.  Extracting a confession from him is not going to make him an honest man.  Keeping a tally of his prevarications is going to be boring, but needs to be done to convince the electorate.

those Google ads (4.00 / 1)
I agree that it's bizarre that Frank's Google ads are still running.  That's a sign of inattention to detail.  It makes you wonder what else he isn't doing while he prepares for his first term as a US Representative.

It is very simple to stop an ad group from running.  It is even pretty simple to specify an end date in advance.

If you see an ad, please click on it.  Google doesn't need the money, but the webmaster gets half the proceeds--- and they can use the money. Even the guys behind at RedHampshire and GraniteGrok can use the money (and the human beings behind those sites are just misguided; for the most part they are not evil.)

Alex, I'll take "Bill Zeliff '92" for $355k, please (0.00 / 0)
U-L didn't much like Zeliff's position on abortion rights. If memory serves me (and it rarely does), they didn't sing his praises when he ran for re-election against anti-choice Sen. Bob Preston in '92.

So that's my guess. Only other option that comes to mind is Chet Merrow (who later became a Democrat), but that's in the '50s.
