We're Making Them Nervous

by: PaulHodes

Thu Aug 05, 2010 at 12:50:34 PM EDT

(I'll have more later on Fred Malek.  I took an especial interest in him during the 2008 Presidential race. - promoted by Dean Barker)

Kelly Ayotte and the Washington special interests behind her campaign are getting nervous. They're seeing the same things we are: my campaign is surging in the polls and the Sarah Palin endorsement is backfiring.

So what do they do? Launch an attack ad full of facts and figures so misleading I have a feeling they were taken straight off Glenn Beck's chalkboard. They're attacking me for standing up to the special interests and big oil companies and supporting efforts to reduce our dependency on foreign oil and address climate change.

The special interest group funding the ad, American Action, is headed by Washington insider Fred Malek, a top backer of the Ayotte-Palin team. He's a life-long K-Street Republican from Washington who wants to tell Granite Staters how to vote.

We knew this would happen. Ayotte and her special interest backers see that we're within striking distance of taking a senate seat that has been in Republican hands for the last 30 years. So they're throwing everything they can to stop my momentum. Plus, Republicans can't help themselves.  They have nothing to offer this country but the failed policies of the past and nasty attacks.

PaulHodes :: We're Making Them Nervous
I wanted you to hear directly from me about the ad, so please take a minute and watch this video message, direct from our headquarters here in New Hampshire.

I won't be bullied by Kelly Ayotte and the special interests in Washington trying to run her campaign. I won't sit quietly while the Republican smear machine goes to work. I won't stand with the special interests in Washington but only answer to the people of New Hampshire

I hope you'll stand with me in the face of these right-wing attacks. With you by my side, we can do more than make the Republicans and their special interests nervous. On November 2, we can beat them.

This is the stuff (0.00 / 0)
This is the kind of stuff I want to see, Paul Hodes speaking confidently and articulately.  I don't know if it's just been bad luck, and I was traveling alot during his past campaign, but I haven't seen very much footage of Paul speaking and that's made it harder to get a feel for him.

The special interests are front and center (0.00 / 0)
trying to extend the Bush tax cuts, Congressman.  Why are we playing this fool's game?  Why don't we let those cuts expire, and have a bill ready for Congress to cut taxes for the folks who were promised not to see tax increases?

We seem to always play their game by their rules.

Why does the Pro-Ayotte Ad (4.00 / 3)
attack Ayotte?

Today a Washington organization backing Republican Kelly Ayotte for the U.S. Senate launched the most expensive attack television ad this cycle against Democrat Paul Hodes over his support of so-called cap and trade legislation. But in 2005 then state Attorney General Ayotte signed on to a letter with 13 other attorneys general urging the U.S. Senate to reject a George W. Bush backed environmental bill. One of the reasons that Ayotte and others opposed the Clear Skies Bill was its failure to limit and regulate carbon emissions.

In addition to the environmental stand, the letter also went further to suggest that limiting carbon emissions would actually create jobs not destroy them as the Hodes ad suggested this morning.

Fred Malek (4.00 / 1)
Dean, don't mean to steal your thunder. . . Before he became Sarah Palin's primo DC confidante, Malek made a name for himself by firing Jews in the Nixon Administration.  The Slate article offers the best summary that I've read:

At Nixon's request, Malek produced a memo denoting the number of Jews employed by the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Malek then arranged the demotion of at least four people with Jewish-sounding surnames. (He didn't actually know who was Jewish and who wasn't; he guessed based on their names.) It was the last recorded act of official anti-Semitism by the United States government.

Nice friends, Kelly.
