Why I'm working my #%@! off for Governor Lynch (and you should too!)

by: Rep. David Pierce

Fri Oct 15, 2010 at 15:03:01 PM EDT

(Yes! - promoted by Dean Barker)

Some up in my neck of the woods in the Upper Valley say Governor Lynch is not their favorite Democrat.  They say he's not liberal enough. They complain he works across the aisle too much.

That's probably true for a lot of people here in Hanover, where Obama won 82% of the vote in 2008 and where Granny D beat Judd Gregg by almost 2:1 in 2004.

Yes, John Lynch works for consenus in Concord.  Yes, Governor Lynch works for all the people of New Hampshire, not just the ones who want him to beat up Republicans.

But Governor Lynch has proven himself over and over again to us who believe in Democratic values that we need him to stay in the corner office.  Lynch has been the strongest Democrat on the statewide ticket in the last two cycles and his victory in 2010 will be our victory.

Here are my top ten reasons for supporting Governor Lynch's re-election in 2010.

Rep. David Pierce :: Why I'm working my #%@! off for Governor Lynch (and you should too!)
1.    Govenor Lynch is the ONLY governor in the nation to sign a marriage equality bill that is in the law today and helping to form lasting, loving and committed relationships. This means everything to me and my family, as well as to many others who want to bring up their children in a state that honors the dignity of all families.  (And, I'm proud to say, Hanover voted at its town meeting to affirm what Lynch did, by a vote of 141-6!!)  The National Organization for Marriage and Cornerstone Research have been spending MILLIONS to defeat Lynch to punish him for standing up for marriage.  They want to send the message loud and clear to all gubernatorial candidates in the nation that "if you sign a marriage equality bill, you will be targeted and you will be punished."  Lynch knew this was coming.  He knew he was painting the target on his own back, but signed the marriage bill anyway.  And at the ceremony at which he signed the bill, he chastised the federal government for not doing what it should to guarantee equality.  Would Lynch's GOP opponent Johnny Stephen do that?  Of course not.

2.    In his first term, while working against a Republican NH Legislature, Lynch vetoed a bill that would have outlawed college student voting in NH.  He stood up for our students and for the fundamental right to vote.  Would Johnny Stephen do that?  Of course not.

3.  Governor Lynch won re-election in 2006 and 2008 by beating each of his Republican opponents by almost 50 points.  Those long coattails helped usher in Democratic majorities in the NH House and Senate for the first time in our lifetimes.  Would a Johnny Stephen victory help usher in Republican majorities?  I shudder at the thought.  They'd repeal every good thing we've done.  Would a Governor Johnny Stephen be ready with his pen to sign all those repeals into law?  You Betcha!  (OK, I held my nose when I typed that!)

4.    Governor Lynch signed the bill to increase the NH minimum wage for the first time in 10 years.  Would Johnny Stephen do that?  Of course not.

5.    Govenor Lynch signed laws to extend unemployment benefits to part-time workers and workers who left work to care for disabled family members.  Would Johnny Stephen do that?  Of course not.

6.    Governor Lynch worked to launch NH HealthFirst to help small business afford health insurance for their employees.  He was looking out for the little guy, the worker struggling to make ends meet.  Would Johnny Stephen do that?  Of course not.

7.    Governor Lynch worked with our Democratic majorities to shore up the NH retirement system to protect workers' retirement after decades of Republican neglect and accounting gimmicks.  Would Johnny Stephen do that, or would he work to de-fund the whole thing?  What do you think?

8.    Governor Lynch led the effort to recreate the Job Training Fund to help re-train unemployed workers.  He focused not on big business, but on our friends who need that help.  Would Johnny Stephen do that?  Of course not.

9.    Governor Lynch created the Green Launching Pad to create green jobs in NH.  Would Johnny Stephen do that?  Does he even believe in global climate change?  Of course not.

10.    Governor Lynch strongly opposes "right to work" legislation, which we all know is just legislation to bust up the unions.  Would Johnny Stephen do that?  Of course not.

Do any of these ten reasons resonate with you?  Do they all, like they do for me?  If they do, put up a Lynch lawn sign in your yard, your window or your front porch.  All you have to do is say yes.  The Governor has been there for us.  Let's be there for him.  Lynch's victory only helps us win our victory.

Here is another reason (4.00 / 4)
Today, Gov. Lynch, and state and Rochester officials announced hundreds of new jobs will be created in the city over the next several years.

Albany Engineered Composites, an aerospace composites manufacturer and subsidiary of Albany International, which employs about 225 workers at its existing Rochester facility, after working directly with the state over the last two years, has decided to construct a new plant next to the existing facility in Rochester, which will directly result in 300 new jobs.

John Lynch gets the job done for New Hampshire.

Problem With David Pierce... (0.00 / 0)

Another reason: Redistricting (4.00 / 7)

We have had to live with the unfair gerymandered  districts that the GOP manipulated to create when Benson was Governor.

We need John Lynch to stand up for a fair redistricting process that will give an equal value to each voters choice and not functionally disenfranchise tens of thousands of voters, as the GOP created huge multi-member districts currently do.

"But, in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope." Si se puede. Yes we can.

Let's not forget Choice (4.00 / 6)
John Lynch signed the repeal of the parental notification law and submitted his own brief to the U.S. Supreme Court urging them to find it unconstitutional.

John Stephen opposes a woman's right to choose -- even in cases of rape and incest.

Gov. Lynch, State and Rochester City Officials Announce Creation of Hundreds of Jobs

Construction of New Albany Engineered Composites Plant And Continued Investment in Existing Operations Will Create 500 New Jobs

Company Will Also Relocate Corporate Headquarters from

New York to New Hampshire

ROCHESTER - Gov. John Lynch today joined state and Rochester city officials in announcing the creation of 500 new jobs in the city over the next several years.

Gov. Lynch made the announcement at Albany Engineered Composites, an aerospace composites manufacturer and subsidiary of Albany International, which employs about 225 workers at its existing Rochester facility.

After working directly with the state over the last two years, Albany has decided to construct a new plant next to the existing facility in Rochester, which will directly result in 300 new jobs.

Anticipated additional investment in Albany's existing operations, in addition to its new facility, is expected to create a total of about 500 jobs in the area over the next several years.

"As Governor, my top priority is getting people back to work today and investing in our workers so New Hampshire can attract companies and compete for good jobs. This major announcement today is a direct result of our hard work," Gov. Lynch said.

"Albany could have chosen to locate this new facility elsewhere, but they recognized that we have a winning economic strategy in place here in New Hampshire. We worked intensively with the company over the past two years to bring this new plant and hundreds of jobs to Rochester," Gov. Lynch said.

The company also announced today it was relocating its corporate headquarters from New York to New Hampshire.

"These two announcements reflect the growing importance of AEC to Albany International's future. It also reflects the strength of the partnership that we have forged with the city of Rochester and the state of New Hampshire," said Joseph Morone, Albany's President and CEO. "We are especially appreciative of the efforts of Governor John Lynch and his administration. The new jobs that our new plant will create are the direct result of his efforts on behalf of state of New Hampshire."

The State, through the Community College System and Employment Security, has committed to working with Albany to provide job training and other services to help find the workers for these new highly skilled jobs.

"The new facility will employ cutting edge technology and techniques and we will make sure our workers are ready. That's what we do so well in New Hampshire," Gov. Lynch said. "Through our Job Training Fund, we have provided training to more than 7,000 workers from hundreds of companies over the last three years. Having the ability to train and retrain a skilled workforce is one of the reasons Albany has chosen New Hampshire."

Employment at the Rochester location, which has grown by 23 percent over the past two years and is now at 225, is expected to increase by the later part of the decade to approximately 700, making it the company's largest global manufacturing operation.

"Rochester is proud to be chosen as Albany's corporate headquarters and as the location for its new facility and expanded workforce. We have supported their growth in the past and continue that commitment to advanced technology and manufacturing," said Rochester Mayor T.J. Jean. "We sincerely thank the State of New Hampshire, Rochester's economic development team and the leadership of the City Council for encouraging and supporting this opportunity."

"This is great news for the City of Rochester and for the region as a whole," said Department of Resources & Economic Development Commissioner George Bald. "Job creation is the key to successful and thriving communities and we're pleased that Albany Engineering Composites is building upon its investment in New Hampshire. Albany is a top-notch company and has created a center of excellence in the world of composites. We are indeed fortunate they are located in our state."

"As we emerge from this recession, my focus has been getting people back to work now and making sure New Hampshire is positioned to continue to lead the nation's economy in the future. This exciting announcement helps further those goals. It is going to help put people back to work. In addition to the hundreds of new skilled manufacturing jobs, there will be many men and women in the construction industry building this new plant and this project will also expand the tax base for the city," Gov. Lynch said.

"This is a great day for the State of New Hampshire," Gov. Lynch said.

Final Reason? (4.00 / 3)
Let's cut to the real reason why we should be working for John Lynch.

He has been a great hard-working and he deserves reelection.

Johnny Stephen politicized a social service agency for his own political gain. (0.00 / 0)
I have serious ethical concerns with John Stephen. Not unlike former AG Ayotte and how she used her position to manipulate a death penalty case, perhaps even worse is how Johnny Stephen used the developmentally disabled to make his name among Rethuglicans. To keep care from those for whom it is mandated, to create a long waiting list for those with absolute need, at their time of need...simply to show he was a tough manager, is sick. This guy is a punk.
DHHS's mission is to provide services for those sick and weakest among us...not withhold services for a better bottom line.

from "About DHHS"

http://www.dhhs.state.nh.us/ab...
The New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) is the largest agency in New Hampshire state government, responsible for the health, safety and well being of the citizens of New Hampshire. DHHS provides services for individuals, children, families and seniors and administers programs and services such as mental health, developmental disability, substance abuse and public health. This is accomplished through partnerships with families, community groups, private providers, other state and local government entities, and many citizens throughout the State who help make New Hampshire a special place in which to live.

Johnny Stephen politicized a social service agency for his own political gain. For that he is beneath contempt.
