Gatsas Running for Mayor of Manchester

by: Dean Barker

Tue Jun 02, 2009 at 18:41:36 PM EDT

So says Pindell's breaking news email alert:
MANCHESTER - Ted Gatsas, the State Senator and Manchester Alderman, will run for Manchester Mayor, NHPoliticalReport.com has learned. He is expected to formally announce Monday.
Of course the civic, dignified thing for Senator Gatsas to do would be not to be a Senator Gatsas.  But this is Senator Gatsas we're talking about. He's got a permission slip from the lawyers:
State Sen. Ted Gatsas would like to fill out the rest of his term in the Legislature, even if he's elected mayor in November, a local GOP official told us.

No problemo. Lawyers for both the city and the state Senate say they know of no reason a person couldn't occupy both seats at the same time.

the law is pretty clear he can do so. (0.00 / 0)
655:10 Incompatible Offices.

     I. No person shall file declaration of candidacy or primary petitions for nomination at the primary for incompatible offices. For the purposes of this section, incompatible offices shall include the offices of governor, United States senator, United States representative, representative to the general court, state senator, councilor, county sheriff, county attorney, county treasurer, register of deeds, and register of probate. If any person shall file for incompatible offices, the secretary of state shall advise the person of the provisions hereof and said person shall then advise the secretary of state which of said offices he or she wishes to retain in order to seek said nomination. If a filing fee has been paid for a declaration of candidacy which the person declines, the fee shall be returned to the person. No person shall seek or hold the position as a member of the general court and county commissioner at the same time.

"But, in the unlikely story that is America, there has never been anything false about hope." Si se puede. Yes we can.

Yes, but.... (4.00 / 2)
Those of us who live in Manchester can think of many reasons why he should not fill either seat!

Yes, (4.00 / 1)
it's legal.

He would commit no crime to hold these two major, high profile state elected offices simultaneously.

I would want my mayor (and senator) to aim for a higher threshold than not committing crime, though.

Two Words (4.00 / 2)
Senator Bresler

It can happen.  Same district.

A fine idea, to say the least! (0.00 / 0)
Of course, Sen. Backus has a nice ring to it as well.

Sen. Backus? (0.00 / 0)
If he's not a fan of the Fascist Yankees, I will switch my allegiance!

But But (4.00 / 1)
His ego is certainly big enough.

No'm Sayn?

C'mon guys.. (0.00 / 0)
if Teddy really thought he was going to win for mayor he would resign from the state senate.

Teddy is running for mayor 'cause there isn't anyone else.

Plus everyone in Manchester knows how unhappy Teddy is with being one of only two Republicans for year after year on the 14 member board. This gives Dems the opportunity to pick up the aldermanic seat.

Democrats solve problems, Republicans sit and say no.

Only two Republicans????!?!?!? (0.00 / 0)
Axing city services and neglecting the schools.... you're telling me an Aldermanic board made up of mostly Democrats did that?

Don't get me started n/t (4.00 / 1)

Oh please do get started... (0.00 / 0)
We need to get started on better candidates in Manchester.... and we need that as soon as possible.

[ Parent ]
At least one of these Democrats... (0.00 / 0)
...spent a fair bit of time last fall talking about which candidate for President might be a Muslim who refused to say the Pledge of Allegiance. Party labels don't always mean a hell of a lot in Manchester.

Cut what should be funded, fund what should be cut, and cook the numbers until you get the result you want.

Be my guest... (0.00 / 0)
If Gatsas wants to run for mayor this fall when the consequences of his poorly designed budget will be out in the open for all to see, then be my guest. The citizens of Manchester have had enough of his poor leadership. He should get crushed! Whether or not he actually does depends on how hard we work.

Ted Gatsas stands for one person ... (4.00 / 3)
... Ted Gatsas.

Everything and everyone else is a pawn in his quest to build power and satisfy his ego.

As for him thinking he can hold two offices concurrently, we already have a part-time mayor.  We don't need another one.

Nice jab and all... (0.00 / 0)
....but jabs aren't enough. We need to defeat him in November.

[ Parent ]
Fortunately (0.00 / 0)
Ted Gatsas' actual head is as big as his metaphoric one.

What Teddy needs to do is... (0.00 / 0)

... stick to his horse racing and get outa politics. That's just me.
