BREAKING - Terie Norelli, NH Speaker of the House Endorses Hillary

by: gradysdad

Wed Aug 01, 2007 at 12:53:08 PM EDT

( - promoted by Dean Barker)

Speaker of the House Terie Norelli announced today that she was supporting Hillary Clinton for President.  She was named a New Hampshire Co-Chair of the Hillary Clinton for President Campaign.

She said in her statement:

I have met with Hillary and talked with her. She is a woman of warmth, compassion, and dedication to issues that really matter. For 35 years she has stood for transformational change, and she is the candidate who has the experience and wisdom necessary to handle complex challenges.
gradysdad :: BREAKING - Terie Norelli, NH Speaker of the House Endorses Hillary
Terie is currently serving as the first female Democratic Speaker of the New Hampshire House.

Prior to being elected to the New Hampshire House, she was a high school mathematics teacher at Winnacunnet High School in Hampton. Terie has long been committed to women's advocacy. She attended the 4th World Conference on Women in Beijing, China in l995, and helped to organize follow-up conferences in New Hampshire in 1996 and 2000, and has served as Chair of the NARAL-NH PAC Board of Directors. Norelli has also received several awards for her work in the legislature, including Legislator of the Year by the Women's Lobby and the National Association of Social Workers, and received the Public Service Award from the Bi-State Primary Care Association.

At the time of the 100 Club Dinner in March this year, there was a lot of speculation on this blog over who the various dignitaries would endorse for president.  Two of them have endorsed Senator Clinton:  Sylvia Larsen and Terie Norelli. One has endorsed Senator Obama: Paul Hodes.  That leaves Governor Lynch, Representative Carol Shea-Porter, and Kathy Sullivan who have not endorsed anyone as of this date.

I found it interesting that Terie had attended the World Women's Conference in China in 1995. I bet that her contact with Senator Clinton at that conference had a big part in her decision to endorse.

This is a nice endorsement for the Clinton Campaign.

Preempitive announcement! (4.00 / 1)
In order to avoid another 57 post parsing, and also to deflate any conspiracy theories, let me say right up front that everything that I said previously about the Hodes endorsement of Obama applies to the Norelli endorsement of Clinton!

Energy and persistence conquer all things.

Hah! (0.00 / 0)
Good one, Kathy. . . . The big question:  Who will David Ortiz endorse?  THAT one will matter!

Thank you (0.00 / 0)
but I'm still skeptical as to whether this will hold true or not.

Obama and Clinton are tied right now in New Hampshire, so the Hodes endorsement has arguably coincided with a significant gain for Obama.

Given the current polls, having Speaker Norelli endorse right now seems shrewd to me.

Especially timed as it was (4.00 / 1)
with Obama's major policy speech today.

Didn't both things occur at noon as well?

Now that you mention it... (0.00 / 0)
I received the Norelli announcement about 12 minutes before, as a matter of fact.  If it wasn't for the fact that the text of his foreign policy speech was released last night, I'd probably have missed it!  Talk about calculation...

Good call, Dean.

"tranformational change" (0.00 / 0)
man talk about plagiarism..

Edwards has been using that since last year

"time to ask Americans to be patriotic about something other than war"- John Edwards

Please (0.00 / 0)
It's an expression that's been used by politicians for years.

A change would do you good (0.00 / 0)
I'll credit Sheryl Crowe with that.

I just googled "transformational change". There are 1,850,000 hits for "transformational change".

What is the difference between regular change and transformational change?  I started to read a 2004 review of a book called "Deeper Dimensions of Transformational Change" on one site referenced on google called www.pegasus.com, but I only got as far as the "Theory of the U".

Energy and persistence conquer all things.

I think it's more corporate speak (0.00 / 0)
It has all the hallmarks:
  • Googling turns up business books
  • It has a 50 cent (well, 20 cent) word
  • It's actually a pretty stupid phrase: tell me about changes that are not transformational, please?

ours goes to eleven.. (4.00 / 1)
its not just the same old change those other guys have... I have transformational change...

Since we're talking about plagarism (0.00 / 0)
Did you notice that the Clinton NH website is almost exactly like the Obama NH Website which came out about earlier?

Right down to the covered bridge...

[ Parent ]
Hmmm.... (0.00 / 0)
I don't think the Obama campaign invented the covered bridge photo on a NH political website idea. See, for example: http://nhdp.org/

Photos of covered bridges are fairly common in NH political websites.
